Hi there and Welcome!
My name is Sonya and I’ve just turned the big 3-0. I live just outside of Toronto, Ontario and I have struggled with my weight for years now. I am a repeat offender of Weight Watchers. First starting it back in 2002 unofficially. I then joined officially each year from 2004-2009. Crazy? Yes, I agree. Each time I lost weight and then gained it back. Yes, that’s right ladies and gents, I am a walking statistic.
I didn’t really have any weight problems growing up. When I hit over 180lbs in university, that was when I thought to myself, wow…I need to lose weight. Those walks to and from highschool were no longer and I was eating out more and grabbing what I could from the cafeteria. Of course nothing my Mom would have approved of at the time. Then after finishing school I moved out on my own and the bad eating habits continued. It was easier to grab on the go, than cook for one. I then got a full-time job (where I tend to sit on my butt a bit too much) and link that with my daily commute of 45min each way, you can see how this girl has gone from her desired 160-170lb body to over 250 pounds.
I’m no longer attending WW, but I am on a journey of sorts. I am no longer “dieting”. No longer counting points. I no longer have forbidden foods. I am learning that there are no good and bad foods (thanks to a dietician and therapist) and this has been quite a turn around for someone who thought orange juice was a “bad food” because it was “points” and why drink points when I could eat them. I now am enjoying ‘normal’ food. I go to the deli, I eat cheese and other forbidden foods. .
For me it’s now about learning BALANCE. It’s okay to have McDonalds once a month, but it’s not okay to have it once a day (something I have been guilty of in the past). I’m also going to try to learn more about portion control (as my stomach is the size of Canada right now) and making the right choices again. It’s also about getting active! I have been a total couch potato-fast food junky, so getting back to buying groceries (something I loath to do) and making meals at home on top of working out will be a huge task for myself. I do know that making these changes will only benefit me in the long run though so here goes nothing!!! Operation “GIVE A SHIT” has started!
Join me on my journey to my new body, my new attitude, and a healthier lifestyle. Feel free to comment, I always love reading what you have to say!
Congratulations for opting out of diet insanity and choosing a healthier lifestyle with real food! I too am a WW survivor. Two books have helped me immensely – The Slow Down Diet by Marc David and The Gift of Our Compulsions by Mary O’Malley. They both offer kind, gentle messages of self acceptance.
Good Luck!

Hi There,
Loved reading about you. I look forward to reading more about your journey.
Yes, it is all about portion control and making the right choices one day at a time.
